Red Rice Carpet

The installation Red Rice Carpet consists of a carpet made of red-colored rice. As a work that is deliberately unavoidable, it forces visitors to interact physically and makes them active co-creators of the work. The reinterpretation of the red carpet – from the symbol of exclusive representation to a material consisting of a global staple food – opens up a multi-layered reflection on luxury, hospitality and the use of natural resources. The progressive destruction caused by stepping on the carpet and the photographic documentation of the decay are an integral part of the concept and refer to impermanence, responsibility, and ecological contexts.
